Festival Director Job Description:
The Los Angeles Film Festival Director is a full time year round staff position. The primary responsibility of the position is to work with the Executive Director of Film Independent to create a vision for the Los Angeles Film Festival and communicate that vision to the staff, to the Industry, to the press, and to the general public. Strong leadership skills are a must in guiding and managing the different departments. Measurements for gauging success must be set and managed with each department, as full accountability is required after each year’s Festival. Please note this position is mostly administrative and not curatorial. Specific responsibilities breakdown as follows:
- Produce the Festival within the budget approved by Film Independent Managing Director. Oversee all aspects of revenue and expenses on the Festival;
- Oversee the Los Angeles Film Festival Managing Director and all LAFF event staff; oversee the following Department Heads with respect to their work on the Film Festival: Director of Programming, Director of Education, Director of Talent Development, Director of Marketing, and Publicity Manager;
- Maintain Studio publicity and marketing relationships for Opening and Closing Night Galas and special events;
- Maintain Studio distribution relationships as well as Exhibitor relationships in order to navigate theater availability;
- Maintain relationships with all of the independent film distributors, publicists, and marketing companies;
- Build and maintain outreach and relationships with Industry leaders;
- Broker relationships between filmmakers and key Industry players;
- Consult attending filmmakers with screening and sales strategies;
- Build and maintain relationships with community leaders as well as state and local government officials;
- Work with Development Director to properly pitch and fulfill all sponsorship deals at the festival;
- Work with Marketing Director to properly implement and fulfill all marketing initiatives for Festival;
- Act as a representative for Film Independent and the Los Angeles Film Festival at various film festivals around the world as well as a liaison with other film organizations locally and nationally;
- Determine key success factors for film festival and measure those success factors
Film Education Coordinator - Film Independent
Reports to: Director of Education
Job Description:
The Film Education Coordinator assists Director of Education in the production of high profile education events for Film Independent and the Los Angeles Film Festival. Events include but are not limited to: Financing Conference, Director Series, Filmmaker Forum, Los Angeles Film Festival panels and speaker series.
Duties:
- Create and disseminate timeline for a specific number of conferences and events
- Track progress on all activities related to each event and update as needed
- Participate in brainstorming sessions and meetings related to each program
- Research topics and potential speakers
- Book and confirm speakers--send fact sheets for day of event
- Assist in the collection of all handout materials: speaker’s bios, headshots, case studies, testimonials, sample contracts etc. (some may involve pre-interviews with speakers, key industry professionals and filmmakers).
- Make travel and hotel arrangements for out-of-town guests
- Be present at all events to greet guests, distribute releases, set-up/host greenroom, and trouble shoot as needed
- File and archive all materials related to each event
- Work with Marketing representative and Director of Education to establish and execute marketing plan for each event---update marketing timeline and track all marketing materials
- Assist Director of Education on an as needed basis on the different projects the Film Education Department produces year round
- 2 years of event producing and project management experience
- Strong knowledge of filmmaking, independent film, and filmmakers
- Strong organizational skills, oral and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills
- Working knowledge of all equipment that Film Independent uses in its education programs
- Working knowledge of Filemaker Pro, Word, and Excel
- B.A. degree in Film or related field
- Must have reliable transportation

Full-Time Freelance Designer/Production Artists
Film Independent is looking for temporary full-time freelance designer/production artists with 2-3 years experience for work in January 2009 for 3 to 4 weeks.
- Must be proficient in Adobe CS(3-4) on Mac platform.
- Must have a great design sense with superior production skills for print and web.
- Must have exceptional organizational skills.
- Must be able to multi-task and take multiple projects from concept to completion quickly and efficiently.
Work includes but is not limited to:
- multi-page layout,
- web graphics,
- one sheets,
- invitations,
- submission forms,
- trade advertisements,
- and handbills.
You will be working from our in-house MacPro but you must have the option of bringing in a laptop with at least CS3 installed.
