STEPHANIE ALLAIN JOINS AS NEW LOS ANGELES FILM FESTIVAL DIRECTOR
Film Independent’s Los Angeles Film Festival runs from June 14 to 24 this year, and joining in this celebration of cinema for filmmakers and film lovers will be Stephanie Allain, who succeeds Rebecca Yeldham as the new Los Angeles Film Festival Director. Stephanie has served on Film Independent’s Board of Directors, headed Spirit Awards nominating committees and has been involved in our year-round events for several years. We are excited to have such a strong supporter of Film Independent and our community lead the Los Angeles Film Festival into further creativity and success. Co-President Josh Welsh says, “We so appreciate all that Rebecca has done to grow the Festival into what it is today. To have Stephanie carry on Rebecca’s great work and build upon it is a dream come true.” Due to personal reasons, Rebecca elected to step down from the post.
Stephanie Allain is a film producer whose credits have continuously raised the bar for independent films. Her credits include John Singleton’s Boyz n The Hood, El Mariachi, Something New and Hustle & Flow. Stephanie previously worked as a studio executive and has held the position of Senior Vice President of Production at Columbia Pictures—the highest creative position for an African-American for over a decade. She is a member of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences and the Producers Guild of America, and sits on the Board of Women in Film. Up until very recently, Stephanie also served on the Board of Film Independent.
“My passion for Film Independent has only grown over the years, and I couldn’t be happier to become even more involved in an organization that puts filmmakers first and supports them in specific and tangible ways.said Stephanie. “The Los Angeles Film Festival is a unique celebration of cinema and a hub for filmmakers and film lovers, especially for those of us who live and work in the film industry. I can’t wait to dive in and develop creative ways in which we can expand the Festival and its programs.” And we can’t wait to support the plan!
