FIND DIVERSITY STRATEGY

Film Independent`s diversity strategy is to increase the number of films made by and exhibited by filmmakers of color and to become a leading national incubator for diverse filmmaking talent.

Film Independent`s Diversity Strategy includes the following components:

TALENT DEVELOPMENT:

Project:Involve is Film Independent's signature diversity program, dedicated to increasing cultural diversity in the film industry by cultivating the careers of under-represented filmmakers. Each year, P:I accepts 40 filmmakers from different creative disciplines. The P:I Fellows attend monthly Professional Development and Film Production Workshops, which culminate in a 2-3 minute short made in collaborative filmmaking teams. The Fellows are also paired with Mentors - Industry Professionals in their discipline.

ACCESS:

Film Independent is dedicated to supporting and promoting the next generation of diverse film talent. Programs such as Fast Track and Kodak Speed Dating and events such as the Diversity Expo at the Los Angeles Film Festival introduce Film Independent Fellows and filmmakers to the decision-makers in the industry who can finance their project and/or make a difference in their career.

COMMUNITY:

Project:Involve Screenings: Through Project:Involve, Film Independent brings independent feature films directly to underserved communities in the form of free community screenings. These screenings showcase the work of talented filmmakers of color and offer the community the chance to discuss the film and meet the filmmaker.

RESEARCH:

Film Independent will research, track, and distribute information on historic and current
workforce trends in the film industry — with a focus on diversity. Film Independent is embarking on an exciting new Research Project, which will track the number of producers, writers, and directors attached to U.S. Theatrical Film Releases each calendar year.
