effie t. brown:

producer, real women have curves

Los Angeles-based producer Effie T. Brown received a degree in film production and theatre from Loyola Marymount University before participating in Film Independent?s Project:Involve. Brown quickly worked her way up through the ranks to become Director of Development for Tim Burton Productions in 1995. She then went on to line produce numerous features including Desert Blue (Kate Hudson and Christina Ricci), the subversive cult satire But I'm a Cheerleader, and Things You Can Tell Just By Looking At Her (Glenn Close, Cameron Diaz, Holly Hunter). Brown then took on the role of producer on several critically acclaimed features including Cheryl Dunye's HBO film Stranger Inside, winner of several film awards and nominated for three Independent Spirit Awards; Patricia Cardoso's HBO/Newmarket film Real Women Have Curves; and Everyday People. She also executive produced Jane Campion's In The Cut. In 2004 Brown received the Motorola Producer Award at the Independent Spirit Awards and was honored with the 2003 Distinguished Young Alumni Award from Loyola Marymount University. Under the banner of Brown's LA-based production company, Duly Noted,Inc., she recently wrapped production on Rocket Science, an HBO films/Picturehouse release.
