Includes a conversation with writer/director Barry Jenkins and actors André Holland, Mahershala Ali, Naomie Harris and Alex Hibbert

Please note 7:00 pm start time.

From writer/director Barry Jenkins, whose first film Medicine for Melancholy took a unique and grimly comic look at the situation for people of color in San Francisco, comes his adaptation of the play In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue by award-winning actor/playwright Tarell Alvin McCraney. The film Moonlight—which has the feel of a contemporary, black version of Wong Kar-wai’s Happy Together—examines the life of Chiron, an African-American, from childhood to young adulthood, as he struggles with the hardships of seeking his own masculine and sexual identity in Miami. The cast includes three actors playing Chiron in three stages of his life—Alex Hibbert as a boy, Ashton Sanders as a teenager and Trevante Rhodes as a young man—Andre Holland, Janelle Monáe, Mahershala Ali and Naomie Harris as Chiron’s mother. Writer/director Jenkins will appear onstage for a Q&A after the screening of this remarkable sophomore film effort.
