    Congrats to Gretchen Somerfeld and David Baxter (2007 Producers Lab), who just received a $40,000 grant from the Sloan Foundation to support their film Face Value. The Tribeca Film Institute (TFI) announced the selection of five film projects to receive financial and creative support from its inaugural TFI Sloan Filmmaker Fund, supported by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. Out of 130 applications submitted, the five projects chosen will receive a total of $110,000.

    Congrats to Lance Hammer (2001 Producers Lab, 2002 Screenwriters lab) and Courtney Hunt (2006 Fast Track), both of whom have been nominated for the 2008 Gotham Independent Film Awards. Lance received four nominations for his debut feature Ballast -- Best Feature, Best Ensemble Performance, Best Breakthrough Director, and Best Breakthrough Actor (for Micheal Smith). Courtney's film Frozen River got two nominations --Best Feature, and Best Breakthrouh Actor (for Melissa Leo).

    Congrats to Neil Kopp (2008 Producers Award Winner), whose film Wendy and Lucy (directed by Kelly Reichardt) has been selected to screen at the AFI Film Festival this November. Also playing the fest is Quiet Little Marriage, written and directed by Mo Perkins (2008 Producers Lab), produced by Tamara Maloney (2008 Producers Lab) and executive produced by Hal Haberman (2000 Screenwriters Lab). Also, Hal's directorial debut, the feature Special, starring Michel Rappaport and Josh Peck, is being released theatrically by Magnolia next month.

  • Sidetrack Aligns With Nike For "Beautiful Losers" Theatrical Release Aug 13, 2008

    Sidetrack Films has partnered with Nike Sportswear for the upcoming release of Aaron Rose and Joshua Leonard's "Beautiful Losers," the documentary that debuted earlier this year at the SXSW Film Festival. While the filmmakers and Sidetrack entertained traditional offers from distributors after the film's Austin premiere, they decided instead to release the film on their own. The shoe and apparel company will assist in funding a five market launch for the film.
