Kailey, a divorced, tough-as-nails mother who makes her living playing poker upstate and hustling games in a Manhattan pool hall, wants to get her 11-year-old son Gulley back from his upper-class but abusive father. Taking the ultimate gamble, Kailey kidnaps Gulley in order to secure $50,000 for bootleg passports to travel to Canada to start a new life. Her only way to make the money is to participate in a $10,000-per-rack game of nine ball, backed by a longtime pool hall owner and friend Teddy.
