Where are Film Independent at LACMA events held?

Film Independent at LACMA events are held at the Leo S. Bing Theater at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). LACMA is located at 5905 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, California 90036.

 

How do I buy tickets? How much does it cost?

Tickets for Film Independent at LACMA events may be purchase at lacma.org, by calling 323.857.6010 or at the Hammer Building Ticket Office during museum hours. Film Independent, LACMA Film Club and NYT Film Club members will have the opportunity to purchase tickets before they are made available to the general public. In addition to pre-sale benefits, Film Independent, LACMA Film Club and The New York Times Film Club members receive discounted tickets and access to exclusive preview screenings. While many of the events in the series are free, below is the pricing structure for paid events:

Live Read, directed by Jason Reitman:
Jason Reitman’s acclaimed series of canonical film script readings features surprise casts.

Pricing:
$15 for Film Independent, LACMA Film Club and NYT Film Club members
$25 for LACMA members, students and seniors
$40 for the general public

An Evening With…:
These special evenings include an extended conversation with Film Independent at LACMA curator Elvis Mitchell and a screening of a feature-length film.

$10 for Film Independent, LACMA Film Club and NYT Film Club members
$14 for LACMA members, students and seniors
$20 for the general public

Classic and Contemporary Screenings:
Several screenings each month include Q&As with filmmaker(s), cast and crew (schedule permitting).

$5 for Film Independent, LACMA Film Club and NYT Film Club members
$7 for LACMA members, students and seniors

Where and when do I pick up my tickets?

Tickets can be picked up at the Hammer Building Ticket Office at LACMA (5905 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, California 90036) during museum hours, anytime after purchase or on the night of the screening any time before the start of the event.

Ticketed guests must be in the theater by the published start time of the event, otherwise your seat(s) may be released and distributed to the standby line.

Film Independent, LACMA Film Club and The New York Times Film Club members must show proof of membership at pick-up to retain member discount rates or pick up tickets to free screenings.

 

Do I need to bring my membership card?

For Free Members-Only screenings, Film Independent, LACMA Film Club and The New York Times Film Club members must show proof of membership in order to pick up tickets.

For paid events, Film Independent, LACMA Film Club and The New York Times Film Club members must show proof of membership at pickup to retain member discount rates.

 

Can I bring a guest or multiple guests?

Please check the ticket purchase page at lacma.org for more details, including number of guests allowed, for each individual event.

 

Where do I park and how much does it cost?

Free parking is available after 7:00 pm in the lot on the southeast corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Spaulding Avenue. Prior to 7:00 pm, the charge is $10 and may be prepaid at all Ticket Offices, with credit cards accepted. Street parking is also available.

 

When do the theater doors open for events?

Doors open approximately 30 minutes before event start times. Guests can line up starting one hour before the doors open.

 

Are there assigned seats?

All events are general admission.

 

If I have RSVP’d for a free screening or purchased a ticket to a paid screening, is my seat guaranteed? What if I’m late?

For free events: Reservations for free events do not guarantee entry to the event. Entry into the theatre for free screening is first-come, first-served, even with a ticket in hand. Your tickets will be held until 15 minutes before the published start time of the event. (Example: you must be at the theatre at 7:15 pm for a 7:30 pm event.) RSVP’s are required for free events.

For paid events: Your purchased seats will be guaranteed until the published start time of the event, after which unoccupied seats will be sold to those in a stand-by line.

 

How does the standby line work?

If there are no more advance tickets available for an event, patrons may form a standby line beginning no earlier than one hour before the published start time of the event. If seats are available at the published start time of the event, they may be sold to those in the standby line on a first-come, first-served basis.

 

Are there free screenings?

Yes, Film Independent at LACMA will host many free screenings throughout each year for Film Independent members, LACMA Film Club, The New York Times Film Club and the general public.

 

Can I pre-pay for multiple events?

Yes, you may pre-pay for all currently listed films at lacma.org.

 

I’m a The New York Times Film Club member. How do I reserve tickets?

The New York Times Film Club members should RSVP for free member screenings, co-presented by The New York Times Film Club ONLY at nytfilmclub.com. Tickets to all other screenings should be reserved at lacma.org. The New York Times Film Club members must pick up a hard ticket at the Hammer Building Ticket Office prior to entering the theater.

 

Why can’t I purchase Live Read, directed by Jason Reitman, tickets with the rest of this month’s lineup offerings?

Live Read, directed by Jason Reitman tickets are sold apart from the rest of the monthly lineup in order to provide a better customer service experience for all of our membership groups.

 

Is Live Read, directed by Jason Reitman a year-round event?

Live Read directed by Jason Reitman is programmed on a six-month cycle, from October to March annually.
