Cinematographer Harris Savides on set

Film Independent joins the whole film world in expressing our sadness over the death of cinematographer Harris Savides. Harris was a remarkable talent, whose work can be seen in a wide array of films – from David Fincher’s Zodiac to Ridley Scott’s American Gangster and Noah Baumbach’s Margot at the Wedding.

While Savides worked with many different directors, he is perhaps best known for his longstanding collaboration with Gus Van Sant, shooting Finding Forrester, Gerry, Elephant, Last Days, Milk and Restless. Harris was a frequent presence at the Independent Spirit Awards, and nominated for five Spirit Awards between 2003 and 2010.
