Logline
After losing her academic career to scandal, Rowena Sullust—a brilliant mycologist and breast cancer survivor haunted by fears of recurrence—finds herself entangled in a dangerous love triangle with her self-destructive ex and an ambitious biotech mogul, where the boundaries between obsession, science, and survival blur beyond recognition.
Synopsis
“Snare” is a grounded, queer sci-fi love story that blends body horror, psychological drama, and magical realism. At its core, the film explores what it means to sever love, and whether memory, desire, and grief can ever truly be erased.
The story follows Rowena “Ro” Sullust, a brilliant but volatile mycologist whose research into fungal networks promises to revolutionize medicine. Ro’s world collides with that of Jackie “Jax” Mist, her charismatic but self-destructive ex, who refuses to release their shared history. What begins as a portrait of toxic intimacy quickly spirals into the surreal when Jax collaborates with an eccentric entrepreneur to create a fungal-based pill designed to chemically sever romantic attachments.
As Ro becomes entangled in the trial of this experimental drug, the lines between healing and harm blur. Memories morph into hallucinations, bodies become laboratories of obsession, and the couple’s love curdles into a dangerous cycle of dependence and self-erasure. Meanwhile, Greta, Ro’s pragmatic lab partner, and Hunter Poole, a manipulative biotech opportunist, push the story into a wider battle between scientific discovery, corporate exploitation, and the fragile vulnerability of the human heart. It fuses tactile fungal imagery with intimate, emotional storytelling, transforming Ro and Jax’s relationship into a visceral meditation on love, addiction, and autonomy.
Ultimately, “Snare” is both a cautionary tale and a love story turned inside out—a portrait of two people who can neither hold onto nor let go of each other, and the haunting consequences of trying to excise memory itself.
