Directors Close-Up

Conversations with filmmakers, moderated by filmmakers, for filmmakers and film lovers.

Wednesdays, January 26 – March 16, 2022

The Directors Close-Up, Film Independent’s signature program focusing on the art and craft of directing, returns with a special celebration of the directors and creators nominated for the 2022 Film Independent Spirit Awards, and surprise guests who have made waves with their work this past year.

Directors Close-Up series passes are on sale.

This year, we’re going hybrid, bringing the best of virtual and in-person worlds together in a reimagined event that is responsive to our new reality, allowing us to safely reconnect in person, while providing easy remote access to serve local and global audiences alike.

Series passes will offer a hybrid experience, providing access to all ten sessions, including seven virtual panels plus three in-person* conversations at our traditional DCU venue The Landmark in West Los Angeles (with recordings of the in-person conversations made available on demand the day after each event takes place).

Each week, you’ll hear acclaimed Spirit Award-nominated storytellers in independent film, documentary and television discuss the creative and collaborative processes that have propelled their visions to the screen.
