Directors Close-Up

Conversations with filmmakers, moderated by filmmakers, for filmmakers and film lovers.

February 1 – March 1, 2023

The Directors Close-Up, our signature program focusing on the art and craft of directing, returns this year to celebrate the directors, writers and creators nominated for the 2023 Film Independent Spirit Awards.

Our 2023 Directors Close-Up boasts yet another impressive lineup of storytellers from around the globe. Following the success of last year’s series, we’ve retained a format featuring ten sessions – each devoted to a different Spirit Awards category – along with some special guests from outside the indie realm.

DCU will take place over the course of one month, beginning with seven online events, followed by three in-person events at our new home, the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills, in partnership with Film Independent Presents.

Take a look at the official Directors Close-Up Schedule for more details, and remember to check back for updates including newly announced panelists, moderators and more.
