2021 DIRECTORS CLOSE-UP

Wednesdays, March 3 – April 21

The Directors Close-Up, Film Independent’s signature program focusing on the art and craft of directing, returns this year with a special celebration of the directors and creators nominated for the 2021 Film Independent Spirit Awards.

Directors Close-Up series passes are on sale now.

This year’s schedule features the biggest, most diverse, international lineup in the history of the series. In a time when we’ve watched more films and television shows than meals, we’ve supersized the DCU to take place over the course of two full months.

DCU 2021 will take place virtually, giving us the opportunity to gather directors from around the world and bring them, and their stories and insights, directly into your home.

Each session, you’ll hear acclaimed narrative, documentary and television storytellers discuss the creative and collaborative processes that have propelled their visions to the screen.

This year’s series will feature incredible Spirit Award-nominated talent, including:

Radha Blank (The Forty-Year-Old Version)
Lee Isaac Chung (Minari)
Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman)
Emily V. Gordon (Little America)
Eliza Hittman (Never Rarely Sometimes Always)
Steve James (City So Real)
Kirsten Johnson (Dick Johnson is Dead)
Darius Marder (Sound of Metal)
Steve McQueen (Small Axe)
Kumail Nanjiani (Little America)
Channing Godfrey Peoples (Miss Juneteenth)
Kelly Reichardt (First Cow)
Andy Siara (Palm Springs)
Alice Wu (The Half of It)
Chloé Zhao (Nomadland)
