Education Events & Classes

Education Programming

Knowledge. Networking. Community.

Film Independent’s Education programming offers a broad variety of seminars, panels, workshops and networking events to help you enrich your filmmaking knowledge, forge new working relationships and join a community of like-minded peers.

Join us at one of our popular Filmmaker Tuesday events – included with your Membership – curated to cover current best practices in the craft and business of filmmaking.

Our Education programming is aimed primarily at emerging and mid-career filmmakers, but Film Lover Members will find many of these events of interest as well.

Not based in L.A.? Film Independent also offers a select number of virtual events for our Members worldwide.

Filmmaker Tuesdays

Seminars, panels and conversations hosted by industry leaders

Join us twice a month (on Tuesdays, of course!) to learn about topics from screenwriting and development, to distribution and sales.

Instructors are working entertainment professionals who will help you build knowledge and skills related to every stage of the filmmaking process.

Access to Filmmaker Tuesdays is included with your Film Independent Membership and serves as one of the pillars of our mission to build a global community of filmmakers, both emerging and experienced.

As an added bonus, if you're a Filmmaker Pro Member, you'll have the exclusive opportunity to bring a guest to these events.

Filmmaker Tuesday topics include:

Meet The Casting Directors
Equity Financing 101
Breaking in as a Screenwriter
Filming in L.A.
Crowdfunding in a Crowded World
The Lowdown on Fiscal Sponsorship
Film Festival Strategies
Marketing for Producers
Color Finishing Demos
Sustaining a Career in Documentaries ...and many more!

Classes primarily take place in person at the Film Independent Offices in Los Angeles, but many are held online, allowing Members living outside of LA to participate, learn and connect with their peers.

IndieLink

Directly connecting filmmakers with talented below-the-line creatives

IndieLink, one of our most popular annual series, provides cinematographers, editors, composers and designers a valuable opportunity to present their work to an audience of potential collaborators. Several unique IndieLink events are held every year – they're free and open to all Members, plus each includes a hosted networking reception.

For directors looking to build new partnerships, or producers wanting to crew up, IndieLink is the ideal way to meet as many as 15 talented craftspeople in one night.
