Synopsis

HIATUS is a nonprofit production company that takes powerful stage plays beyond the theater by adapting them into screenplays and reimagining them on cinematic and real locations. We unite experienced film and television professionals with protégés to provide immersive, hands-on mentorship and education on our productions. Our mission is to preserve playwrights’ voices, expand access to their stories, and inspire the next generation of storytellers.

Meet the Filmmakers

Jes Macallan — Co-Founder/Executive Director
Jes Macallan is a seasoned director and actor with a passion for character-driven storytelling. With over 130 episodes as a lead in major television series including DC’s Legends of Tomorrow(CW/Netflix, 7 seasons) and Mistresses (ABC/Hulu, 4 seasons), she brings a deep understanding of performance and narrative to her work behind the camera. She has directed visually complex episodes of Legends of Tomorrow, as well as All Rise (OWN/WB), numerous episodes of All American, and the spinoff All American: Homecoming (CW/Netflix), and Found (NBC). Her artistic foundation began in classical dance at the age of three and continued through college, where she performed in competitive, professional companies. Trained extensively in ballet, jazz, modern, tap, and musical theater she studied techniques including Fosse, Graham, Ailey, Tharpe, Cunningham, and Balanchine. Macallan holds a BA from the University of Florida and studied abroad at Bocconi University in Milan. She brings energetic passion, clear communication, and artistic vision to every set.

Nic Bishop — Co-Founder/ Artistic Director
Nic Bishop is an Australian actor who has built a nearly 30-year career across television, film, and theater. He is best known internationally for starring in Body of Proof (ABC/Disney/Hulu) and Covert Affairs (USA/Peacock) and has appeared in series such as Truth Be Told, Snowfall, Dominion, S.W.A.T., and Legends of Tomorrow. His recent film work includes Jesus Revolution, Woodlawn, and The Royal, where he portrayed baseball legend George Brett. A graduate of Australia’s National Institute of Dramatic Art, Nic has also taught screen acting for over 15 years worldwide, including in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and South Africa. He has created numerous programs for various schools and studios he has taught with, most notably the highly successful “Screen Actor” program at NIDA. For many years, whilst living in Australia, Nic was appointed as an”‘Australia Day Ambassador”, which is an acknowledgement of a “high-achieving Australian” in their industry.
