Documentary Works in Progress: One Act

You’re invited to join us for a work-in-progress screening of One Act , followed by a conversation and feedback session with director Pamela Ribon and guests, moderated by Daniel Cardone (Senior Manager, Film Independent Nonfiction Programs).

The Film Independent Documentary Works-in-Progress Series offers nonfiction filmmakers a place to share their projects to receive constructive feedback.

Audiences have the opportunity to watch films as they enter the final stages of editing, offering feedback via in-depth surveys and moderated discussions, helping to ready projects for festivals and distribution.

Attendees will be asked to participate in the conversation following the film and fill out an anonymous questionnaire.

Beverages will be served prior to the screening, starting at 6:30 pm PT.

One Act is an unexpected mash-up of the emotional roller coaster of theatre and the competitive nature of Texas. The rules are strict: seven minutes to set up, under forty to perform, seven to strike, or you’re disqualified. Across both well-funded and under-resourced schools spanning the state, through an immersive mix of professional and student cameras, we meet a shy “follower” stepping up as stage manager, a senior losing his home while chasing a scholarship, a mercurial talent learning to control his temper, a veteran director weighing whether to leave the state, and a first-timer facing a 106-page rule book. As the season unfolds, wins are huge, losses are public, and futures are on the line.
