Film Independent Members, you and a guest are invited to join us for a theatrical screening of Nuisance Bear, including an in-person conversation with directors Gabriela Osio Vanden and Jack Weisman.

A polar bear is forced to navigate a human world of tourists, wildlife officers and hunters as its ancient migration collides with modern life. When a sacred predator is branded a nuisance, it becomes unclear who truly belongs in this shared landscape.

From MUBI, Nuisance Bear premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival where it won the Documentary Grand Jury Prize. The film will open in theaters in Los Angeles on November 6 and in New York on December 4.

All Film Independent Members can register for this event starting at 5:00 pm PT on Wednesday, October 21. | Registration is free; one registration per Membership. | Proof of Member status is required to complete registration.
 

Tickets/Parking

On the day of the event, registered Members may pick up tickets as early as 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time – look for Film Independent signage. Tickets are nontransferable and for general, unreserved theater seating only (except for Arts Circle Members). Attendees must be in their seat(s) at least 15 minutes prior to the advertised start time or seat(s) may be released. Entry/seating will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis. Guests may not enter the venue without the Member who registered them present. Registration does not guarantee entry, even with a ticket in hand.

Parking lot is located at 11144 Weddington St. (one block north of the theatre) on the south side of the street. The lot is also labeled “5250 PARKING”. Cost is $2.25 for 3.5 hours with a theatre validation, and $1.75 for each 15 minutes thereafter.
