An Evening With… Denis Villeneuve

The kickoff to our series of Film Independent Presents events at The Wallis will bring you An Evening With… Academy Award®-nominated Denis Villeneuve, the French-Canadian filmmaker who caught the industry’s attention with Maelström, and thereafter delivered thought-provoking and visually stunning works of cinematic art in Prisoners, Sicario, Arrival and Blade Runner 2049 before faithfully and artfully undertaking Frank Herbert’s science fiction masterwork Dune, which, despite a pandemic, rose to the occasion and was met with critical acclaim and worldwide box office success. Join us as we learn more about Villeneuve’s process and craft via a review of some of his previous films, as well as a deep-dive conversation into how he, his crew of artisans and company of actors mounted the supposedly insurmountable Dune. Moderated by John Horn (Host; KPCC, The Frame).

Attending Arts Circle Members are invited to join us for an intimate pre-reception in The Wallis Wells Family Education Courtyard starting at 6:00pm, prior to showtime.

About Denis Villeneuve and Dune
Denis Villeneuve is an Academy Award®-nominated French-Canadian filmmaker best known for having directed Blade Runner 2049, Arrival, Sicario, Prisoners and Incendies. His astute attention to detail and unique visuals have established Villeneuve as one of the premier filmmakers working today. Villeneuve’s most recent film, the highly acclaimed film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s science fiction novel, Dune, was released in October 2021. The film, which stars Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Charlotte Rampling and Javier Bardem, is Villeneuve’s biggest domestic opening at the box office, and the best start for a Warner Bros./HBO Max day-and-date title, with a record breaking $40.1M. Dune has since crossed the $300M mark at the worldwide box office and following the opening weekend success, it was announced that Dune: Part 2 will be released on October 20, 2023 with an exclusive theatrical run.

From Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures, Dune is now showing in theaters and on HBO Max.
