Free Members-Only Screening: The Public

Includes a conversation with writer/director/actor Emilio Estevez

Emilio Estevez (Men at Work, Bobby) leads with his heart as well as his head in The Public; a dramatic look at the crisis of homelessness that is consuming this country. Estevez plays Stuart, a well-meaning librarian caught in the middle of a movement led by Jackson, a resolute homeless man (Michael K. Williams), who stages a protest at the library with a group of other homeless men and women who encamp at the library, refusing to leave after its closing time. The escalating situation draws the attention of a large swath of the community, including a crusading and opportunistic DA (Christian Slater). Estevez, who wrote and directed the film, is part of an all-star cast that includes Alec Baldwin, Jena Malone, Gabrielle Union, Jeffrey Wright and Richard T. Jones. Estevez will discuss the production of the film in a Q&A after the screening.

2019, 122 min, color, DCP | Written and directed by Emilio Estevez; With Gabrielle Union, Taylor Schilling, Christian Slater, Jena Malone and Alec Baldwin
