Free Members-Only Screening: Beautiful Boy

Includes a conversation with director Felix Van Groenigen and actors Maura Tierney and Steve Carell; moderated by Scott Mantz

Beautiful Boy will be preceded by a 2018 Project Involve short film

PLEASE NOTE: This screening was originally scheduled to take place at ArcLight Hollywood. It will now take place at Harmony Gold Preview House – address listed above.

The title Beautiful Boy itself suggests the irony in this story of writer David Sheff’s fight to reclaim his son from drug addiction. Unflinchingly portrayed by Steve Carell and Timothée Chalamet in the lead roles, Beautiful Boy is about both sides of the story as it takes the audience inside the harrowing, cyclical battle between rehabilitation and an addict’s need to feel the excitement of scoring; a quest that becomes a separate addiction in and of itself. The effort to get Nic back to a normal life is treated as something many have gone through, adding to the sense of dizzying anxiety caused by drug addiction and its aftermath. Director Felix Van Groeningen and stars Maura Tierney and Steve Carell will be in attendance for a conversation after the screening.

2018, 112 min, color, DCP | Based on the book “Beautiful Boy” by David Sheff, and the book “Tweak” by Nic Sheff; screenplay by Luke Davies and Felix Van Groeningen; directed by Felix Van Groeningen; with Steve Carell, Timothée Chalamet and Maura Tierney
