What’s your damage, Heather?
It’s 1988 at Westerburg High School, and Veronica Sawyer (Winona Ryder) finds herself trapped in a terrifying preppie-girl clique. Heather Duke, Heather McNamara, and mega-bitch leader Heather Chandler carry out their daily spectacle of teen terror upon the masses of regular students. Looking for an out, Veronica gets ensnared by new-kid-bad-boy J.D. (Christian Slater) who has a diabolical plan for eliminating the Heathers and their jock bully boyfriends. To Veronica and J.D.’s surprise, the cool kids’ popularity transcends even death and soon, suicide is the coolest fad at Westerburg since shoulder pads.
Heathers, the debut feature from writer Daniel Waters and director Michael Lehmann, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. It received multiple nominations and won Best First Feature at the 1990 Film Independent Spirit Awards. A sharp, subversive hit, the film launched major careers and became a defining cult classic.
Now, experience the dark, razor-sharp satire live as writer/director Meredith Alloway (Forbidden Fruits) leads a one-night-only Live Read, in partnership with MUBI, at the DGA New York Theater. Lick it up, baby. Lick. It. Up.
Cast reveal coming soon!
