Party on, dudes! Grab your favorite flannel and “schwing!” on over to Wayne and Garth’s party basement, because Film Independent is rocking out with an excellent Live Read of the classic comedy Wayne’s World.

Actor, writer and director Zoe Lister-Jones (SLIP, Band Aid, New Girl, How It Ends, Beau Is Afraid) will direct this crowd-pleasing blast from the past, from writers Mike Myers, Bonnie Turner and Terry Turner, and director Penelope Spheeris. Guests will experience one of cinema’s most memorable metalhead duos, enjoy epic music moments, and catchphrases galore at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts’ Bram Goldsmith Theater on Wednesday, June 11 – reinvented by a cast of outstanding actors, including…

Abbi Jacobson, Nicole Byer, Sherry Cola, Robby Hoffman, Poppy Liu, Kate Moennig, Sophia Bush, Nori Reed, Meatball, Dylan Mulvaney and a special surprise guest! Music by Miya Folick featuring Amelia Randall Meath (Sylvan Esso), and Claud.

Audience members are encouraged to attend in costume, either as Wayne or Garth, or a totally sweet headbanger of your design.

Arts Circle Members receive access to the Founders Room, including complimentary beverages, one hour prior to showtime.

Wayne Campbell is a heavy metal music fan living in suburban Aurora, Illinois. On Friday nights, Wayne and his eccentric best friend Garth Algar host a public access TV show called “Wayne’s World” from Wayne’s basement. When Wayne and Garth visit their favorite hard rock club, The Gasworks, Wayne meets the lead singer of the band Crucial Taunt, Cassandra Wong, and the two hit it off instantly. Wayne and Garth are approached by handsome TV network executive, Benjamin Kane, who sees an episode of “Wayne’s World” and offers Wayne and Garth $10,000 and the chance to bring their show to Prime Time Television. Wayne and Garth suddenly find themselves moving up in the world big time, but little do they know that Benjamin is working behind the scenes to ruin the show and steal Cassandra from Wayne. Wayne, Garth and Cassandra must deploy major hijinks and Scooby-Doo endings to save their show and Wayne’s relationship.

Directed in 1992 by Penelope Spheeris and produced by Lorne Michaels, Wayne’s World is based on Mike Myers’ beloved Saturday Night Live sketch which aired for the first time on February 18, 1989. The sketch had many guest star appearances over the years, including Tom Hanks as a roadie and the band Aerosmith, who performed a hard rock version of the “Wayne’s World” theme song.

Special thanks to Paramount Pictures for making this event possible.
