Members-Only Screening: La Bola Negra

Film Independent Members, you and a guest are invited to join us for a theatrical screening of La Bola Negra, including an in-person conversation with writer/director/producers Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, actor/songwriter Guitarricadelafuente, and actors Miguel Bernardeau, Carlos González and Milo Quifes.

From Cannes-winning directors Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi — popularly known as Los Javis — La Bola Negra follows three generations of men across pivotal moments in Spanish history, bound by pain, desire and love. Carlos (Milo Quifes) longs to belong in a fractured Spain. Sebastián (Guitarricadelafuente) finds connection across enemy lines. And Alberto (Carlos González) uncovers a long-buried family secret — one that finally gives voice to truths the past tried to erase.

The film also stars Miguel Bernardeau (Rafael), Goya winner Lola Dueñas (Teresa), Academy Award winner Penélope Cruz (Nené), Golden Globe winner Glenn Close (Isabelle), and Emmy-nominated Julio Torres (Juan Pablo).

From Netflix, La Bola Negra premiered at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival where it won the Best Director award for Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo. The film also received the Audience Award at the Toronto International Film Festival and San Sebastian International Film Festival.
