NanoWave: The Microbudget Film (r)evolution, Part 5

Over the course of NanoWave: The Microbudget Film (r)evolution, we’ll dive into ultra-microbudget filmmaking and the filmmakers who are producing independent films with budgets under $100,000. The six-part series will explore this revolutionary model of storytelling and the artists who get the job done with minimal resources. Through case studies and panel discussions, we will hear directly from filmmakers, key crew members and microbudget champions who are carving their own path within independent film…

Throughout this series, we’ve heard from filmmakers and their teams about the creative processes behind their successful, microbudget films that embody how to use ingenuity to stretch the dollar, secure the location and get the shot. These filmmakers have shown how you can get a feature shot, accepted to festivals, and distributed for under $100,000. But while we’ve seen the final product and absorbed behind-the-scenes knowledge, how do you budget for such a shoot? In this session, we’ll demystify how to microbudget via a virtual presentation.

Producer and 1st AD Elena Weinberg (A Room Full of Nothing) will present a sample budget using her upcoming feature film as an example. Learn the difference between must haves vs. nice-to-haves, union vs. non-union and more, as we dive into the budgeting process to help you on your own microbudget filmmaking journey.
