Film Independent Members, you and a guest are invited to watch Honeyjoon in the Film Independent Presents Online Screening Room, powered by Vision Media, followed by a pre-recorded conversation with writer/director Lilian T. Mehrel, moderated by Rachel Bleemer (Director of Programming and Events, Film Independent).

A surprisingly sexy, darkly funny emotional rollercoaster. In this layered dark comedy, June and her Persian-British mom Lela travel to the romantic Azores for a grief anniversary, with contrasting ways of coping. A hot, philosophical surfer takes them on a tour as we surf the waves of life, loss, flirting… an unforgettable ride. In her award-winning debut feature, director Lilian T. Mehrel brilliantly transforms grief, desire and human connection into something electric, introducing a visionary new voice.

Released by Utopia’s Circle Collective label, Honeyjoon premiered at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival, won the Tribeca AT&T Untold Stories Award, and multiple audience and jury awards at 50 festivals. Now in theaters.

Writer, director and producer Lilian T. Mehrel is a 2025 Film Independent Episodic Lab Fellow and recipient of the Sloan Episodic Lab Grant.

Online Screening Policies
