Film Independent is pleased to welcome back filmmaker and production designer Mona Nahm who will offer an overview of the role of a production designer. Topics covered will include: how to develop a design concept and draw from a screenplay; what to look for when hiring the right production designer and when to engage them; the advantages (and disadvantages) of shooting on location versus a soundstage; essential money-saving tips for shooting on a low budget; and how to avoid common pitfalls that many first-time filmmakers make.

Since graduating from LMU with a BA in Film Production and from UCLA with an MFA in Screenwriting, Mona Nahm has worked as production designer on over twenty features including The Diabolical, Fanatic, The People I’ve Slept With and Journey From the Fall.
