The Look of ‘Back to Black’

Please note: This class will take place on site at Picture Shop and begins promptly at 7:00 pm.

Color decisions often begin prior to shooting and travel through to the final stages of post production. Today’s independent filmmakers with an understanding of color grading are at a distinct advantage when prepping, budgeting, shooting and scheduling their post-production workflow.

We’re excited to present a color grading demonstration with the team behind the new Amy Winehouse biopic Back to Black, including Director of Photography Polly Morgan, ASC, BSC, and Picture Shop Senior Colorist Natasha Leonnet.

Topics will include the art and craft of cinematography; how Morgan shot the film; and the role of color in the art of filmmaking, with Leonnet drawing upon her own experiences and work as both colorist and teacher to illuminate how extraordinary color can be in helping to emphasize both the story and emotions within the visual art of cinema.

Morgan’s recent credits include A Quiet Place Part II, Where the Crawdads Sing and The Woman King. Leonnet’s recent credits include Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Hypnotic and Cocaine Bear. You can follow their work on Instagram: @pollymorgan, @natashaleonnet and @pictureshop.
