2022 FILM INDEPENDENT SPIRIT AWARDS ANNOUNCES
CALL FOR ENTRIES OPEN

Nominations to be announced December 14, 2021

LOS ANGELES (August 24, 2021) – Film Independent announced today that it is accepting film and television entries for the 2022 Film Independent Spirit Awards. The Spirit Awards is the primary fundraiser for Film Independent’s year-round programs, which cultivate the careers of emerging filmmakers and promote inclusion in the industry. The Early Deadline is September 7, 2021, the Regular Deadline is September 21, 2021, the Final Deadline is October 5, 2021 and the extended Film Independent Member Deadline is October 8, 2021. The nominations will be announced on December 14, 2021 at a virtual press conference in Los Angeles.

“With the opening of our nominations window, we once again look forward to celebrating the best films and series of the year,” said Film Independent President Josh Welsh. “At the Spirit Awards, we loudly celebrate storytelling that embodies diversity, innovation and uniqueness of vision, and the powerful work that has sustained us through this most challenging past year.”

In a break from tradition, the 37th Film Independent Spirit Awards will be held on Sunday, March 6, 2022 at 5 pm PT / 8 pm ET, positioning it squarely in the corridor leading into Oscar voting. In addition to celebrating the broad spectrum of independent filmmaking, the Spirit Awards expanded in 2021 with the inclusion of television categories.

Film Independent Members comprise the exclusive voting body which determines the winners of the Film Independent Spirit Awards. Members are filmmakers, film industry leaders and film lovers. Anyone passionate about film can join at filmindependent.org/join by Tuesday, December 21 to be eligible to vote for the winners of the 2022 Film Independent Spirit Awards and receive full nominee screening privileges.
