SETH BOGART OF HUNX AND HIS PUNX, EMILY KOKAL OF WARPAINT, ULISES LOZANO OF KINKY, YACHT
AND NICK ZINNER OF YEAH YEAH YEAHS TO PERFORM NEW LIVE MUSIC TO CLASSIC AND CULT FILMS

Los Angeles, December 14, 2016 — Film Independent at LACMA is launching a new addition to its series programming, Bring the Noise, a one-of-a-kind monthly live experience that unites classic movies and TV with new and original film scores performed by contemporary artists. Guest Artist-In-Residence T Bone Burnett (O Brother Where Art Thou?, Nashville, Crazy Heart) and a rotating group of acclaimed musicians will work together with Film Independent Curator Elvis Mitchell to present a wide range of remastered classic films at LACMA’s Bing Theater. The original music track will be isolated and removed, keeping the film’s dialogue and sound effects intact. For one night only, these remixed versions of movie favorites will screen with original, live musical accompaniment in a unique performance event, never again to be duplicated. The series kicks off on Saturday, January 28, 2017 with a soon-to-be-announced film with a live performance by Seth Bogart of Hunx and His Punx. Follow @filmindependent on Twitter for film title announcements.

In addition to Seth Bogart, the series will include performances by artists as varied as composer Michael Andrews (Togetherness, Donnie Darko, Me and You and Everyone We Know), Jack Antonoff of Bleachers, Daniel Ash & Kevin Haskins of Bauhaus, Emily Kokal of Warpaint, Ulises Lozano of Kinky, YACHT and Nick Zinner of Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Each Bring the Noise event will have a one-of-a-kind poster designed by Matt Owen, the artist behind the Film Independent at LACMA Live Read posters.

“The intersection of great independent film and music is at the heart of Bring the Noise and Guest Artist-In-Residence T Bone Burnett is the perfect embodiment of how these two worlds collide,” said Film Independent President Josh Welsh. “I look forward to seeing how these talented musicians and composers will reimagine these films and am so appreciative of the support of the HFPA, which has made this new venture possible.”

“LACMA is proud to partner with Film Independent on this exciting new film series,” said Michael Govan, LACMA CEO and Wallis Annenberg Director. “Our Live Read series encouraged genuine connections between live performers and audiences and underscored the importance of film as an art form. Bring the Noise is a natural continuation of LACMA’s commitment to art, film, and music, and supports our ongoing initiative to explore the intersection of art and film. We could not be more pleased to have T Bone Burnett, who is a great friend of LACMA, participate in this new program.”

”I’m thrilled to be a part of Film Independent at LACMA’sinitiative of expanding the audience experience of movies, and keeping audiences excited about coming out to see them in theaters. I can think of no better way to do so than by adding a performance aspect – and T Bone Burnett’s enthusiasm for movies and TV will definitely spill over into the crowd. T Bone Burnett, as well as the guest artists we have lined up for the series, brings a fervor to Bring the Noise that equals the passion the original filmmakers brought to their work,” said Elvis Mitchell, Film Independent Curator.

Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) President Lorenzo Soria also expressed excitement on this new expansion. “The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is proud to support new and profound ways of experiencing art,” said Soria. “Film Independent at LACMA has created an innovative way to experience classic films and live music simultaneously. These unique experiences help maintain public interest and appreciation for the arts and film for years to come.”

Bring the Noise is made possible by a grant from the HFPA that was presented at the organization’s annual Grants Banquet on Aug. 4, an evening in which the HFPA awarded nearly $2.4 million to non-profit entertainment-related organizations, foundations and scholarship programs. KCRW 89.9FM is the Promotional Supporter of Film Independent at LACMA.
