ACTORS ANNA KENDRICK, ZOE SALDANA, AND COMMON TO PRESENT THE NOMINEES FOR THE 28th FILM INDEPENDENT SPIRIT AWARDS

Announcements To Be Held At The W Hollywood On November 27

LOS ANGELES (November 16, 2012) – Film Independent Co-Presidents Sean Mc Manus and Josh Welsh jointly announced today this year’s 2013 Spirit Award nominees will be presented by actors Anna Kendrick (End Of Watch, Up In The Air), Zoe Saldana (Star Trek, Out Of The Furnace), and Common (Just Wright, Smokin’ Aces) in a press conference at 10:00 am PT on Tuesday, November 27 at The W Hollywood. The three presenters have all been involved with Film Independent in the past. Aside from being a two-time Spirit Award nominee, Kendrick performed at the Los Angeles Film Festival when her movie Camp screened, Common was an artist in residence during the 2008 Los Angeles Film Festival, and Saldana has served as a presenter on past Spirit Awards.

“Anna, Zoe and Common have become an integral part of the Film Independent family and we are honored to have them join us for this big moment to announce and celebrate the best independent artists of the year,” said Mc Manus.

Film Independent, the nonprofit arts organization that also produces the Los Angeles Film Festival and Film Independent at LACMA Film Series, will announce the winners on February 23 at the 2013 Film Independent Spirit Awards. The live-to-tape event is held under Film Independent’s signature tent on the beach in Santa Monica and will premiere later that evening on IFC at 10:00 pm ET/PT.

Spirit Awards are given out in the following categories: Best Feature, Best First Feature, Best First Screenplay, Best Director, Best Screenplay, John Cassavetes Award (given to the best feature made for a budget under $500,000), Best Male Lead, Best Female Lead, Best Supporting Male, Best Supporting Female, Best Cinematography, Best International Film, Best Documentary, and the Robert Altman Award. The Filmmaker Grants include the Someone to Watch Award, Stella Artois Truer Than Fiction Award, Piaget Producers Award and the Jameson FIND Your Audience Award.
