In the extraordinary city of El Alto, Bolivia, a young woman with lofty aspirations of becoming a fashion designer faces the challenges that come with being part of a dynasty of “Wrestling Cholitas” and her relationship with an unyielding mother.

Synopsis

The sensational “Wrestling Cholitas” is a sweaty, no holds barred battle (involving hair pulling, choke holds, flips, and body slams) that showcases indigenous female wrestlers from El Alto, La Paz. These women proudly display their cultural heritage by performing in traditional attire, all in the style of “lucha libre.”

Casilda and Santusa, are daughter and mother and integral members of a wrestling dynasty. Casilda, a young and imaginative “cholita,” dreams of pursuing a career as a professional fashion designer abroad. She secretly plans to leave behind the wrestling life, bringing her newborn child along with her. However, Santusa, the iron-willed matriarch of the group, dismisses Casilda’s passion for fashion as nothing more than a whimsical daydream.

Casilda is torn between the fear of disappointing her mother and the burning ambition to follow a different path with her child. Thus, mother and daughter must confront each other amidst the breathtaking Andean scenery and vibrant architecture. This intense battle becomes a mesmerizing spectacle of Bolivian colors, showcasing each woman’s unwavering dreams. Could this be the ultimate clash between them?
