Paul feels anxious, hopeless, and disconnected. But what is his ailment?
Synopsis
WASTE KING is a surrealist comedy/drama that follows a man in fleeting, impressionistic moments as he scrolls his life away. Over the course of 13 minutes, we watch Paul age from his 20s to his 80s — moving through university, first dates, doctor’s appointment’s, marriage, children, and finally, old age — as he seeks something real in a world filled with distraction.

Meet the Filmmakers
Joshua Yunis— Writer/Director
Joshua Yunis is a writer-director based in Los Angeles. He directed CAMP, a Tubi Original film, starring Joey King, Nolan Gould, Annalise Basso, and the Sklar Brothers.CAMP is an ensemble coming-of-age comedy/drama about teenagers navigating friendship, romance, and betrayal in their final year of sleep-away camp. It is distributed by Vertigo Entertainment and Plaion Pictures.
Josh received his MFA in directing from UCLA. His short film, The Schwartz Test, was selected to screen as the opening film at the UCLA Film Festival, where it also won the award for Best Screenplay. The film went on to play at the Newport Beach Film Festival, Portland Film Festival, Bahamas International Film Festival, and the Hollywood Comedy Shorts Film Festival.
It also won the Gerald Hughes Comedy Directing Award. Josh’s work has also garnered an Edie and Lew Wasserman production grant, the Jim Morrison Film Award, and a grant from the National Association of Theater Owners of California/Nevada.
In addition to writing and directing his own work, Josh teaches directing and short film writing at UCLA Extension’s Film and Television program. His work is rooted in the diaspora Jewish experience of his upbringing.
