Bio

A primetime Emmy-winning producer, Alexandra Johnes has worked most notably as a producer of feature documentaries for acclaimed documentary directors Alex Gibney, Eugene Jarecki, Jehane Noujaim and Lucy Walker. In recent years, she has expanded into producing fiction. Her first fiction feature, The Witch, premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, winning Best Director, sold to A24 and Universal Pictures.
Johnes’ documentaries have received several awards and nominations, including an Oscar nomination for Jehane Noujaim’s The Square, the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival, a DGA award, several Peabody Awards and Primetime Emmys. Production and distribution partners on her films have included Magnolia Pictures, Participant Media, Netflix Originals, Disney, A&E, ITVS, BBC, ZDF/ARTE, Optimum Releasing and HBO. From 2007-2012, Johnes ran Alex Gibney’s company, Jigsaw Productions, managing all aspects of development and production. Johnes is a graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and a former child actress.
