Bio

Babalwa Baartman is a writer/creative producer who founded a production company, Sanusi. She’s a fellow of the 2022 Realness Institute’s Development Executive Traineeship and the Realness African Screenwriters’ Residency 2023 cohort. In 2019, she co-wrote “Sizohlala”, a short story that highlights the Occupation Movements in South Africa, and recently co-produced and co-wrote a feature, Mlungu Wam (Good Madam), a psychological horror, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival Platform Prize Competition in 2021. The film addresses the issue of inequality in South Africa through the story and experience of a domestic worker and her daughter.
