Debra Aroko is an award-winning Kenyan filmmaker and 2025 Film Independent Global Media Makers Fellow. Her debut feature, Searching for Amani, won the Albert Maysles Best New Documentary Director Award at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival and Best Documentary Film at Raindance, earning coverage in Vanity Fair and Elle Magazine. She is also Co-Director of Solutions Storytelling Project at the Video Consortium, overseeing 15 short documentaries across Africa. Through every project she makes, Debra is committed to one thing: telling African stories that expand what the continent looks like on screen.
