Bio

Kate Roughan is currently in production on Zoe Cassavetes’ film, Day Out of Days. She’s an independent producer whose last film, Birth Story: Ina May Gaskin and the Farm Midwives won the Los Angeles Film Festival’s 2012 Audience Award, was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award grant, became part of the curriculum at Harvard and Yale University, and was one of five projects selected to participate in Sundance Artist Services through Film Independent. She recently worked with Industrial Light and Magic/Skywalker Sound at Skywalker Ranch producing Los Angeles Film Festival’s 2013 filmmaker retreat with Guest Director David O. Russell. Kate has worked for the Sundance Film Festival (2012 & 2013) producing the highly successful off screen content series featuring filmmakers/artists/activists and visionaries. She also specializes in social issue short form films and, through Wondros Global, has worked with the Nike Foundation, ONE Organization, The Nature Conservancy, Pearl Jam Foundation, Guthy Jackson foundation and others. Kate associate produced Independent Spirit Award nominated and Silver Docs Music Doc Winner, You’re Gonna Miss Me, about schizophrenic musician Roky Erickson from the 13th Floor Elevators along with Miranda July’s One Woman Show, which later became The Future. She also served as event producer/film advisor for the non-profit arts organization Film Independent where she produced over 40 events for clients such as The Los Angeles Times, Kodak, Technicolor, Deluxe, Canon, Producers Guild of America, Adobe and a variety of others. Kate Roughan was selected to participate in IFP No Borders International Co-Production Market and is a fellow of Film Independent’s Producers Lab and Fast Track (a film financing market). She holds an MFA from UCLA’s School of Film, Television and Digital Media and is a current member of the Producers Guild of America.
