Lala Aliyeva is a documentary filmmaker from Azerbaijan. Lala’s work explores the relationship between people and spaces, blending realism and abstraction. She began her career as a journalist before turning to documentary filmmaking. She completed an MA in Visual Anthropology at Goldsmiths, University of London. Her films have screened at international festivals including Visions du Réel, Sheffield Doc/Fest, and Jihlava. She is currently developing her debut feature documentary, Strange Sea, supported by the Sundance Development Fund and the CICLIC WEMW Award. Lala is co-founder of Chai Docs Documentary House and mentors emerging filmmakers across the South Caucasus.
