Bio

Award-winning Swiss producer Lena Vurma is based in Berlin. She graduated at the renowned German film school dffb and won the Film Prize of the Robert Bosch Foundation with the animation The Little Red Paper Ship, a Polish-German Co-Production.

Her first feature Lost Place by Thor award by First Steps 2014 for her first feature, Lost Place, written and directed by Thor Klein.

She graduated in October 2015 from the EAVE European Producers Workshop with her German-Irish-Belgian Co-Production Ghosts of India (in packaging) and got selected for the Producer’s Network at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.

Her second feature In the Shadows by Indian director Dipesh Jain (USC graduate and Alfred P. Sloan award winner for 11 Weeks) is a UK-Indian-German Co-Production, will premiere this October at the Busan International Film Festival, followed by the India Gold competition at Mami Mumbai and the New Directors competition at the Chicago International Film Festival.

She is currently working with Thor Klein on his next film Adventures of a Mathematician – a Polish-German-Canadian co-production supported by the TFI/ Sloan Filmmaker Grant, the Polish-German Film Fund and the Film Independent Sloan Producers Grant. Vurma is also Head of Acquisitions for German independent film distributor NFP and acquired titles such as Toni Erdmann, Maudie, The Lunchbox, Finding Vivian Maier, The Salt of the Earth and many more.

Logline

After immigrating the US in the 1930's, gregarious Jewish mathematician Stan Ulam experiences the joy of love and discovery along with the pain of loss and homesickness, while playing a fundamental role in creating both the hydrogen bomb and the first computer.
