Bio

After successful stints coaching college basketball and working in Brand Management for such companies as Colgate, Palmolive, and L’Oreal, Nekisa Cooper found the perfect intersection of her skill sets in Creative Producing. Based in New York, she has produced the Sundance Channel documentary feature Eventual Salvation and the Focus Features-released narrative feature Pariah. Additionally she has produced numerous short films for writer/director Dee Rees, including Pariah, Colonial Gods and Orange Bow. Notably, she was a Fellow in the 2010 IFP Trans Atlantic Partners Program, the 2009 IFP Cinemart/Rotterdam Producing Lab, the 2009 Film Independent Project Involve Program and the 2008 Sundance Institute Creative Producing Lab. Cooper is currently in post-production on the feature documentary The Ugly Doll with 2009 and 2010 support from The Tribeca Film Institute and Film Independent. Cooper is most recently the recipient of the inaugural FOX | HBCU Media Alliance Fellowship in partnership with Film Independent. She holds a BA from William & Mary College and an MBA from Clark Atlanta University.

A group of elderly sex workers in Mexico City seek peace and find community behind the walls of Casa Xochiquetzal, a refuge established by one of their former colleagues.
