Bio

Sian Heder grew up in Cambridge, MA, in a family of celebrated artists and received her BFA in theatre from Carnegie Mellon University. She has worked extensively as an Off-Broadway actress, as well as in television and film. In 2005 Sian was among eight women to receive the prestigious Directing Workshop for Women Grant and Fellowship at the American Film Institute. Her directorial debut Mother won the Cinefondation at the Cannes Film Festival, the Grand Jury Prize at the Florida Film Festival, and Best Narrative Short at the Seattle International Film Festival and the Oxford Film Festival, and “Most Promising Filmmaker” at the 24fps Film Festival. It has now been bought for broadcast by Canal+ and has played in over thirty major film festivals worldwide.

Sian was one of four writers chosen to participate in the Nantucket Screenwriters Colony in 2008, and one of eight up-and-coming filmmakers awarded a spot in the Directors Lab at Film Independent for 2009.

Sian is currently heading into pre-production on her first feature film, Tallulah. She is also in development with The Mark Gordon Company and Touchstone ABC for an original hour-long drama called The Store. She is represented by ICM.
