Logline

Shelly finds her impulsive husband leading their two young children on a crusade to egg the house next door. Appalled by her family’s behavior and against her husband’s wishes, she goes to apologize — but is quickly blindsided by her neighbor’s unexpected response. As Shelly tries to model grace for her children, she discovers she’s still wrestling with her own pride.

Synopsis

EGGS is a suburban dark comedy drama about a family trying to hold themselves together in the hours after something breaks them apart.

After their dog is killed in a road accident, Shelly catches her husband Gregg and their two sons, Egwin and Derrick, egging the neighbour’s house. Gregg still has an egg in his hand — acting like a kid himself. Shelly is furious, not because of the mess, but because she’s trying to hold a moral line. She wants her family to be “good people,” even in grief.

Shelly decides the right thing is to apologise. She goes to the neighbour, Devon, hoping to preserve the family’s dignity. But Devon is cold and humiliating, and calls the police. The apology collapses. Shelly walks away ashamed — and seething.

Back home, Gregg wants to return with the boys and try again. Shelly refuses. It’s late, it’s a school night, she wants control back. So she lies. She tells the family Devon accepted the apology and proposes a new plan: the boys will write letters, and she’ll deliver them in the morning.

Then, grief spills out. Egwin breaks down, confessing he left the door open and believes the dog’s death is his fault. Shelly comforts him but redirects blame toward Gregg. Then Egwin reveals Devon called him a vile word — and the family’s moral compass snaps. Devon becomes the villain. Anger feels righteous.

The climax hits when they realise Derrick is gone. While they were arguing and lying, their youngest walked down the street alone, shoes untied, clutching his apology letter. Devon opens the door as a police car arrives. Derrick reads the letter aloud — pure and devastating. Devon bends down and berates him. Shelly’s lies set this in motion, and she realizes she cannot protect her son.
