Case Study: Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong

Have you ever wondered what it takes to shoot an indie feature abroad? What complications does filming in a foreign country—with a different local language—add to a production? We’re pleased to welcome filmmaker Emily Ting to share her experiences making her debut feature Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong, including a discussion of the film’s release on the festival circuit and subsequent sale.

Shot entirely on location in Hong Kong in 14 days for less than $500K, Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong tells the story of two Americans who meet one evening in the iconic city and spend the night wandering the streets as they fall into a winding and carefree conversation. The film had its world premiere at the 2015 Los Angeles Film Festival and was released theatrically in February 2016 and is now streaming on Netflix.
