Fi Nonfiction Works in Progress: Abstract

You’re invited to join us for a work-in-progress screening of Abstract, followed by a conversation and feedback session with director/producer/editor Jaydn Ray Gosselin, and producers Jacob Fertig (a Film Independent Fellow) and Brianda Gosselin-Hickey, moderated by Daniel Cardone (Senior Manager, Film Independent Nonfiction Programs).

The Film Independent Nonfiction Works-in-Progress Series offers documentary filmmakers a place to share their projects to receive constructive feedback.

Audiences have the opportunity to watch films as they enter the final stages of editing, offering feedback via in-depth surveys and moderated discussions, helping to ready projects for festivals and distribution.

Attendees will be asked to participate in the conversation following the film and fill out an anonymous questionnaire.

Beverages will be served prior to the screening, starting at 6:30 pm PT.

Abstract unearths the paradox of the U.S.-Mexico borderlands, the world’s deadliest and most surveilled migration corridor, where cutting-edge surveillance pushes migrants into more perilous routes, leaving forensic teams to recover and identify their remains. From forensic labs to drone operators patrolling the desert’s edges, the film interrogates the detachment demanded by those who study and surveil migrant bodies.
