Includes a conversation with director Jean-Marc Vallée, screenwriter Brian Sipe and actor Judah Lewis

Co-presented by The New York Times Film Club

The newest drama about a search for redemption from French-Canadian director Jean-Marc Vallée, whose recent string of cinematic glories include 2013’s Dallas Buyers Club, which earned Matthew McConaughey a Best Actor Oscar® (and an Editing nomination for the director) and 2014’s Wild (which got star and co-producer Reese Witherspoon a Best Actress Oscar® nomination) is Demolition. In it, he casts Jake Gyllenhaal as successful investment banker Davis Mitchell, fighting—and perhaps losing—to hold himself together after an immense personal tragedy. Naomi Watts is the woman whose unlikely attention to Davis’ deteriorating psychological state offers a possible lifeline, and Academy Award®-winner Chris Cooper is the father-in-law whose tough love isn’t exactly the massage Gyllenhaal’s soul demands.

2016, 101 min, color, DCP | Screenplay by Brian Sipe; directed by Jean-Marc Vallée; with Jake Gyllenhaal, Naomi Watts, Chris Cooper and Judah Lewis
