Live Read: It Was Just an Accident
Live Read: It Was Just an Accident
When a stranger enters Vahid’s Tehran garage to get his car fixed, he sets off a series of events with one tiny sound: the faint metallic squeak from his prosthetic leg. Suddenly, Vahid’s past comes rushing back – he’s absolutely convinced that this is the man who violently imprisoned and tortured him and his friends years earlier. Vahid kidnaps the man and enlists a group of former prisoners to help, but they can’t agree on if he is their torturer or not. With the clock ticking, the pressure is building… do they torture him, kill him, or let him go free? And will they be able to live with their decision?
Now, experience the tension firsthand as the legendary writer and director Jafar Panahi brings the Cannes Palm D’or-winning film It Was Just an Accident to life with a one-night-only Live Read® at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts.
Written by Jafar Panahi, Mehdi Mahmoudian (who was recently imprisoned in Iran for speaking out against the January massacre of peaceful protesters in Iran), Nader Saeivar and Shadmehr Rastin, and directed by Jafar Panahi, It Was Just an Accident has captivated critics and audiences alike, earning two Oscar nominations (including Best International Feature Film and Best Original Screenplay), four Golden Globe nominations including best screenplay, and a BAFTA nomination. The film won best original screenplay and two other awards at the Gothams, and won awards at the New York Film Critics Circle and the National Board of Review, as well as best screenplay at the Los Angeles Film Critics Association and National Society of Film Critics.
