Members-Only Screening: Dead Man’s Wire

Film Independent Members, you and a guest are invited to join us for a theatrical screening of Dead Man’s Wire, including an in-person conversation with director Gus Van Sant.

Based on a true story, the 1977 kidnapping of a prominent banker grips the nation and turns the abductor into an outlaw folk hero. As the media frenzy peaks, the standoff becomes a spectacle of desperation, defiance and blurred justice, which resonates even today.

From Row K Entertainment, Dead Man’s Wire played at the 2025 Venice and Toronto Film Festivals, marks the first feature film in seven years from legendary filmmaker Gus Van Sant, and the screenwriting debut of Austin Kolodney. The film stars Bill Skarsgård, Dacre Montgomery, Colman Domingo, Myha’la, Cary Elwes and Al Pacino with cinematography by Arnaud Potier, editing by Saar Klein and music by Danny Elfman.
