Film Independent Members, you and a guest are invited to join us for a theatrical screening of Left-Handed Girl, including an in-person introduction from co-writer/director/producer Shih-Ching Tsou. The film will be followed by a Q&A with co-writer/director/producer Shih-Ching Tsou, co-writer/producer/editor Sean Baker, and cast members Shih-Yuan Ma and Nina Ye.

Shih-Ching Tsou and co-writer/producer Sean Baker are both Film Independent Fellows who participated in Fast Track in 2011. Baker also won Best Director and Best Feature at the 2025 Film Independent Spirit Awards for Anora.

Directed by Shih-Ching Tsou, and written and produced by Shih-Ching Tsou and Sean Baker, Left-Handed Girl is the story of a single mother and her two daughters who return to Taipei after several years of living in the countryside to open a stand at a buzzing night market. But when their traditional grandfather forbids his youngest left-handed granddaughter from using her “devil hand,” generations of family secrets begin to unravel. Starring Shih-Yuan Ma, Janel Tsai, Nina Ye, and Teng-Hui Huang.

The film is Taiwan’s official submission for the International Feature Film category at the 2026 Academy Awards.

From Netflix, Left-Handed Girl premiered at the 2025 Cannes Critics Week, and will be released in theaters on November 14 and Netflix on November 28.

All Film Independent Members can register for this event starting at 5:00 pm PT on Wednesday, October 29. | Registration is free; one registration per Membership. | Proof of Member status is required to complete registration.
 

Tickets/Parking

On the day of the event, registered Members may pick up tickets as early as 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time – look for Film Independent signage. Tickets are nontransferable and for general, unreserved theater seating only (except for Arts Circle Members). Attendees must be in their seat(s) at least 15 minutes prior to the advertised start time or seat(s) may be released. Entry/seating will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis. Guests may not enter the venue without the Member who registered them present. Registration does not guarantee entry, even with a ticket in hand.
