NanoWave: The Microbudget Film (r)evolution, Part 2
NanoWave: The Microbudget Film (r)evolution, Part 2
Over the course of NanoWave: The Microbudget Film (r)evolution, we’ll dive into ultra-microbudget filmmaking and the filmmakers who are producing independent films with budgets under $100,000. The six-part series will explore this revolutionary model of storytelling and the artists who get the job done with minimal resources. Through case studies and panel discussions, we will hear directly from filmmakers, key crew members and microbudget champions who are carving their own path within independent film…
In the spring of 2021, the independent film Ludi premiered at the first all-virtual SXSW after the COVID pandemic started nearly a year prior. Shot in Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood, writer/director Edson Jean’s feature debut cost $25,000 and took about a year to complete. The film earned rave reviews and continued on to festivals including Atlanta, Bentonville, Phoenix and Heartland before finally receiving distribution and earning a profit.
For part two of our NanoWave series, Edson and executive producer Andrew Hevia (Moonlight, Spencer), will discuss the film’s journey from production to distribution, offering practical anecdotes for filmmakers who want to learn from their experience making and distributing Ludi.
HieronyVision’s Head of Content, Adam Dunlop-Farkas, will moderate. Adam is a filmmaker who collaborated with Edson on his own
microbudget feature, Last Day in Atlantis, which is currently in post-production and was shot in Miami for less than $20,000.
