New York Screening: Bauryna Salu

You’re invited to join us for a theatrical screening of Bauryna Salu, including an in-person conversation with producer Dias Feld.

According to an ancient nomadic custom known as “bauryna salu,” Yersultan is given away as a baby to be raised by his grandmother. When, aged 12, he loses his grandmother, he has to go back to live with the birth parents who gave him away and whom he barely knows.

The film was Kazakhstan’s 2025 entry for Best International Feature, premiered in the New Directors section of San Sebastian Film Festival, had its US premiere at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, and has won over a dozen awards on the festival circuit. It is executive produced by renowned Afghan director Siddiq Barmak (Golden Globe and Cannes-winning Osama).

Bauryna Salu opens this fall at Laemmle Theaters in Los Angeles, Roxy Cinema in New York City, and at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London. It will be released in theaters on September 17.
