Virtual Reality Primer

Are you ready to jump on the Virtual Reality bandwagon, but unsure where to start? Is it even the right platform for you? We’re pleased to welcome VR expert Mariana Acuña to Film Independent for a VR primer for indie filmmakers. Mariana will explain how VR storytelling differs from conventional narrative structure, the different types of VR, the problems and challenges of financing VR projects and the importance of diversity in VR.

About the speaker

Mariana Acuna is the Head of Creatives in the Americas for The Foundry. Her focus for the last three years has been specializing in virtual reality post-production workflows, where she was instrumental in the launches of ExploreVR—a hub for sharing industry insight, practical tips and the latest trends in VR content production—and Cara VR, the 360 video plug-in for Nuke.

Most recently, Mariana founded her own company JoltVR, with locations in Mexico City—her hometown—and Los Angeles, with a focus on creative narrative 360 content and immersive experiences for brands.

Prior to joining The Foundry, she worked as an on-set supervisor and senior compositor, and has over 13 years of experience in the motion picture industry working at such studios as Sony Imageworks, CIS Hollywood, Digital Domain, HBO, Columbia Pictures and Fuse FX.
