SQUADUP

Raised in South-Central Los Angeles, Calmatic is a self-taught filmmaker whose creative curiosity has allowed him to solidify a place for himself in a constantly evolving industry. His video collaborations span some of music’s most influential artists; including Donald Glover, Kendrick Lamar, Tyler the Creator, Zayn Malik, Lizzo, Anderson .Paak and more. In 2018, his film Liberated for Dej Loaf and Leon Bridges’ single of the same name was nominated for an MTV Video Music Award in the “Video with a Message” category. That same year, Calmatic directed the music video for Vince Staples’ nihilistic rap anthem FUN!, a film which combines cultural commentary on the surveillance state with a spotlight on white America’s problematic consumption of “hood” culture.

His most well-known project to date is the official video for Lil Nas X’s viral hit Old Town Road ft. Billy Ray Cyrus. The video has over 300 million videos and earned him a VMA for Best Director. In 2019, he signed a deal with New Line to direct the remake of the 1990’s cult classic House Party. He has recently begun to integrate advertising content into his portfolio, having directed national spots for Target, Chef Boyardee, Apple and AT&T.
