39th ANNUAL FILM INDEPENDENT SPIRIT AWARDS TO BE HELD ON

LOS ANGELES (May 15, 2023) – Film Independent, the nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering independence and inclusivity in visual storytelling, announced today that the 39th annual Spirit Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, February 25, 2024 in Los Angeles.

The Spirit Awards are Film Independent’s largest annual celebration, making year-round programming for filmmakers and film-loving audiences possible, while amplifying the voices of independent storytellers and celebrating their diversity, originality and uniqueness of vision.

Celebrating the best in independent film and television, 2023’s Spirit Awards, hosted by comedian Hasan Minhaj, was marked by a number of firsts. Most notable was a switch to gender neutral acting categories, as well as the introduction of a Best Breakthrough Performance award and Best Supporting Performance in a New Scripted Series award. Honorary Co-Chairs were Siân Heder and Chloé Zhao, both of whom are alumni of Film Independent’s Artist Development programs, which are celebrating their thirtieth anniversary.
